Why I started Rockport Events Calendar

I’m Scarlett Embrey, President of the Rockport Marina Village endeavor in Rockport, Texas.

The Rockport Events Calendar began as a personal project — something I felt our community really needed, and something that also honors a legacy that means a lot to me.

This calendar is inspired by my mother, Margo Olson, who ran the SA Events Calendar in San Antonio for almost 30 years. It was her passion — a resource she created to support nonprofits, the arts, music, culture, and local festivals. I grew up watching her pour herself into it. She believed in the arts and the people behind them, and I saw how much her work meant to the community.

After she passed away in 2016, I wasn’t living in San Antonio anymore and couldn’t continue her work — but the idea of it never left me. Now, living in Rockport, and being involved in local arts and cultural efforts here, I have thought of how much something like it could help this community.

What this calendar is:

  • A free resource for nonprofit arts and culture organizations in Rockport and Fulton, Texas
  • A place to highlight music, art, theater, culture, and festivals — and only those kinds of events
  • Sponsored by Rockport Marina Village as a service to the community
  • Carefully curated, with a clear focus on supporting the creative side of Rockport

Unlike other community calendars (like the Chamber of Commerce), the Rockport Events Calendar is exclusively curated for cultural programming. It’s not affiliated with the Chamber and is intentionally designed to complement—not compete with—existing community resources. We’re not listing ribbon cuttings or meetings — only events that align with our mission to elevate the creative and cultural life of Rockport.

If you want to submit an event:

  • Events must align with any of the following: arts, music, theater, festivals, cultural and arts related nonprofits, and must be family-friendly
  • We do require a high-quality image for approval
  • And we reserve the right to decline events that don’t fit the purpose of the calendar

Three Ways to Submit Events:

  • Submit your events through the website — it's free
  • Eventbrite: Create an account for your organization on Eventbrite.com and submit your events there, and then simply notify us- we will sync with your Eventbrite calendar and it will automatically publish all of your events to our calendar.
  • If you have any public calendar, or public Google calendar that has events that meet our guidelines, please contact us to set up a call, and we will sync with your calendar to seamlessly get all of your events on our calendar

What You Get With Each Event Submission:

  • Free post on Calendar Page
  • Free post within the relevant Category Page
  • Free social media posts to Instagram and Facebook promoting your events
  • We will be doing Google Ads that promote the overall website and promote your events for you (it’s free for you so take advantage!)

How you can help:

  • Share the calendar with anyone you know who’s organizing something in the arts (venues, galleries, nonprofits, musicians, festival promoters)
  • Reach out to us for a free consultation if you need help submitting or have questions — we’re happy to assist
  • Please follow us on Instagram and Facebook to stay connected
  • If you know anyone who wants to write for us please send them our way! (Guest writers will be welcomed to publish here as long as it’s aligned with our mission)

We’ll be doing a more formal launch and promotion soon, We'd love to get as many quality events on this as possible before the formal launch, so please share this email to anyone you know that might be interested- art gallery owners, music venues, arts organizations, festival promoters and non profits. Thanks so much for supporting this — it’s a personal project, a tribute to my mom, and hopefully something that gives back to this amazing creative community we have here in Rockport.
